Update on Wolf and Hu-Mom

Image
One week ago today, Wolf went in for surgery on his other CCL. Pictured above, Wolf on his way home from ortho surgeon with my husband and daughter. What made this extremely difficult was that I could not accompany Wolf to or from surgery as I have been sick with acute bronchitis at first, which was upgraded just a few days ago to pneumonia. Wolf's surgery went well for a completely torn CCL, blown meniscus, and a lot of arthritis. He was heavy medicated, but prognosis is good, just like his other leg that healed well after surgery last Halloween. We've been convalescing buddies. Wolf being greeted by his pack family (sis Bandit on the left and "momma" Harley on the right) as he he is helped up the ramp to the back deck with a sling by Hu-Dad. Everyone is so happy he is back home. Wolf all nestled onto his bed with one of his buddies, on the road to healing. As soon as I am feeling more myself and healthier, I'll be back on to updat

A Torn Cruciate - Yes, Again!

Wolf, cuddling his buddies the night before surgery. So here we are ~ again ~ a place all-to-familiar to us. A blown CCL. While this one was no real surprise, as we were advised that after Wolf's imbrication surgery last October when he blew out his right CCL while running (see HERE for list of Wolf's previous updates), we could/should expect his other to give out in about a year's time. Well, it's been nine months and over the past month he has started showing the telltale signs of his left CCL going, and then this weekend, he was no longer able to put weight on the paw and I knew it was time. So this morning, my boy travelled with his Hu-Dad to the surgical hospital to prep for his surgery today. What makes this especially difficult is that I could not travel with them today as I myself was in Emergency Care this past weekend with acute bronchitis. But, his daddy reported back that he went in with the surgeon like a big boy! Just a few minutes ago, the surgeon p

Today is National Pet Fire Safety Day: Blog the Change for Animals

Image
Our Harley donned a firefighter's hat to help deliver the very important message about fire safety for pets. Today is Be the Change for Animals' "Blog the Change" and we are promoting National Pet Fire Safety Day , which is also observed annually on today's date ~ July 15 ~ as a reminder to be aware of your pet's safety in case of a fire and take a few moments to be sure you have a safety plan in place and take some advance precautions.   "According to the U.S. Fire Administration, fires in the home are reported every 83 seconds," states ADT Security Systems , who partnered with the American Kennel Club (AKC) in 2009 to designate July 15 as National Pet Fire Safety Day. According to the AKC, "The sad news first: 40,000 pets die every year in home fires. To help reduce that number, the AKC and ADT Security Services have declared July 15 'National Pet Fire Safety Day.' This nationwide annual awareness day educates pet

Book Editing Session

My co-editor and Epi-Husky, Gibson, is busy snoozing (but close by me) while I proof one of the drafts of my upcoming EPIc Dog Tales : Heartfelt Stories About Amazing Dogs Living & Loving Life With Canine Epilepsy , to be published this summer by ArcticHouse Publishing . I have to admit, it's pretty exciting having the first set of proofing copies in my hands!

Howlin' at the Super Moon!

Image
My FiveSibes kept me company as I photographed the gorgeous Super Moon last night, the first of three this summer. Each time I aimed the camera up at the moon, they would follow with their glances. Mother Nature gave us a beautiful night art exhibit! The moon is supposed to still be in its glory this evening, so if you missed last night, be sure to take a peek tonight! We sure will be! Happy Birthday, Hu-Nanny!

Image
Wooo! Today is a very special day...it's the FiveSibes Hu-Nanny's 93rd Birthday! Her love of dogs and all animals comes directly from the heart and one of the many important life lessons she taught me as a child ~ to be good to animals, be their voice, and welcome them into your home with love and open arms, making their care and needs a top priority. Just one of the many reasons she is loved so much! Heart In My Hands   If you said you were cold. I would wrap my arms around you. If you said you were thirsty I would give you the ocean blue. I would give you anything the moon, the stars, the sunset too. This heart in my hands I hold out to you. ~ by Katiynd Jenkins

Happy Birthday, USA!

Image
Woooo! Today is Independence Day - America's Birthday - and on the Fourth of July we enjoy so many traditions, such as parades, barbeques, picnics, yard games, swimming, and watching brilliant fireworks' displays. Today symbolizes an unofficial official start to summer time and fun time! Along with the holiday, comes some cautions for our pets. Topping the list is fireworks. While we may enjoy them, a lot of pets do not. They can cause fright, anxiety, and stress for many animals. Then, of course, there is lots of delicious human food around, but not everything we eat is safe for our pets to eat. Here's Wolf with a few friendly tips to help everyone in our families - pets and humans - have a safe, happy, and fun Fourth of July: A nother good thing to keep handy is your emergency vet hospital telephone number, or if you are away, the number of the nearest emergency clinic. And don't forget to leave it posted at home for your pup sitter's information.
