Check Out Pets Podcasts at Blog Talk Radio with Dog Works Radio Show on BlogTalkRadio To close out March, we hope you'll listen to, and share, our very special Purple Day® for Canine Epilepsy Awareness featuring our fellow blogger, Susan Sehi-Smith, author of The White Dog Diary who is the founder and president of the Paws to People: Bridges to Cures organization "committed to furthering comparative studies research in catastrophic diseases (such as epilepsy and cancer) to save the lives of humans and pets." I will also have a more in-depth interview with Sue about Paws to People in a later post, so please check back. I want to thank Sue for an amazing show that is just chock-full of important information. She is doing some amazing work, and hopefully, one day, through comparative studies research, cures for both our two-legged and four-legged loved ones will be discovered. I'd like to dedicate this post to both Sue's Epi-Angel, Quinn, and

Today is the international Purple Day® for Epilepsy Awareness and, along with my Epi-Husky Gibson, I am very proud to be an official Ambassador for my third consecutive year. We join in the worldwide effort of bringing awareness, education, information, resources, and support to people about Canine Epilepsy. We also hope to help dispel some of the fear associated with seizure disorders and to let folks know they are not alone. We are here for you and hope we can successfully steer you in the right direction for assistance. Gibson helping me post Canine Epilepsy information. What is Purple Day? According to PurpleDay.org , “Cassidy Megan created the idea of Purple Day in 2008, motivated by her own struggles with epilepsy. Cassidy's goal is to get people talking about epilepsy in an effort to dispel myths and inform those with seizures that they are not alone. The Epilepsy Association of Nova Scotia (EANS) came on board in 2008 to help develop Cassidy'

Happy 9th Birthday To Our Alpha Queen, Harley! Celebrate by Entering to Win Her Book!

Image
Wooo! It's our beautiful alpha queen Harley's 9th Birthday today! It's unbelievable that she was just a little puppy nine years ago! Time sure does fly! Harley is our very first Siberian Husky and she is what started the FiveSibes! My daughter has wanted a Husky ever since she was a young child and when we felt she was ready for the responsibility, she chose little 8-week-old Harley pup to become a part of our family. Harley joined our senior rescue dog, Chelsey, a German Shepherd/Akita mix. But soon her rambunctiousness required a mate that could match her energy: enter Gibson. And it was love at first sight! They have remained inseparable ever since! We call them our resident lovebirds or married couple! Then, when the three Pupsters came along a few years later, Harley was just amazing; she took them under wing and became a wonderful surrogate mother to them.    Woo! Party time! Harley is an amazingly intelligent girl. She is always thinking and can sometimes

Spring Ahead With Daylight Saving Time: Seasonal Health & Safety Tips

Image
Gibson knows what time it is!   Wooo! It's Daylight Saving Time (DST) for many areas of the world, and for us, tomorrow morning (Sunday, March 9) at 2 AM, we "spring" our clocks ahead an hour, which means...Spring is on its way with daylight giving us longer days to have more fun  to run and play in the yard, go for hikes, long walks, BBQ lots of nom-noms, and swims in the pool. It's also the perfect time to remember some seasonal health and safety tips: PET MEDICATIONS TIME : If your pet is on specifically timed medications (like our Epi-Husky Gibson who is on meds he must take 12 hours apart), you can help reset your pet's internal clock for these medications by staggering them by a half-hour starting on Sunday. Example: If your pet had been receiving their dosages at 7:30 AM before DST, then under the first day of the new time, give it to them at 8:00 AM*; then do the same for the PM dosage. On the se
