An Unexpected Christmas Eve

Image
Please join us in a #pawcircle of healing and prayer for my boy Gibson. We had a very scary Christmas Eve...a sudden snow squall happened that at first was beautiful, but it turned icy very quickly, like in seconds. While outside with the furbabies, my boy Gibson slipped in the icy snow and went down crying. He could not walk and we did get him back inside by semi-carrying him (he is 95 pounds of wooly Husky!). He needs assistance with a sling to go "out" as he can not walk on his own. It appears to me that he may have torn his other CCL (he tore his left one last year and we were advised that he could blow out his other in a year or so, and it's been a little over a year). As most of you know, he is a canine epileptic, and has had a weak hind end for years as a result of meds, which adds to my concern. It is unclear at this point whether it is indeed a cruciate issue, even though does appear to be, and if he will ultimately need a double surgery on his ba

Merry Christmas! Time for a Sleigh Ride!

Image
From our FiveSibes Family to yours, "We wish you a Merry Christmas! We Wish you a Merry Christmas! We wish you  a Merry Christmas! And a Happy New Year!" A special thanks to my FiveSibes™ illustrator, the very talented Michelle Littler, for the above wonderful holiday illustration! (A little secret...we are working on a FiveSibes™ Tale Christmas book for 2014! Woo!) You can check out some of Michelle's other fabulous work on her littletoad store on Etsy HERE . And keeping with the theme of a sleigh ride...we'd like to leave you with our very special Christmas Sleigh Ride video from last year, where furpals from across the globe hopped on Santa's sleigh with us...we're sure you'll recognize more than a few beautiful furry faces, a few who are now angels and watching over us from above. So grab yourself some hot cocoa, some treats for the furkids, snuggle up together on the sofa, turn up the volume, and enjoy! I can hear those sleigh bells jing-

It's Christmas Eve! Santa Came!

Image
This is a flashback to last year, but we just love it when Santa Paws came and visited our FiveSibes and how excited they were to see him (ahem - her, Kat, one of the wonderful receptionists at our vet's office!) that we just had to share again! We hope all our furpals and their families are having a wonderful Christmas Eve and that Santa Paws is very good to all! And don't forget to take a few minutes to play "Santa" by visiting your local shelter or rescue sometime during the holiday season to bring some cheer (and treats and toys) to homeless dogs who could use some cheering up this holiday season until they have a family of their own! Ho! Ho! Ho!

We've Got Christmas Mail! We Sent Christmas Mail! We Are Wishing and Waiting for Santa!

Image
Wolf and Gibson very excited about seeing who all sent us cards! We enjoy seeing them fill our mailbox with cheer! We just love looking at all the beautiful photos and season's greetings! And we can't wait to put them all up on our wall to admire! (We did have a little mishap with our Post Office as apparently a few cards were sent back by accident when a temporary clerk filled in and didn't realize Harley, Gibson, Wolf, Chloe, Bandit, and kitty Binx were the FiveSibes, so the cards were returned to sender. Boo. We have been assured that all is corrected, so we hope if your card was returned, maybe you'd consider resending it. And we thank our Blogger pal for pointing it out right away to me so I could have the Post Office clerk correct it immediately. What a time of year to have mail returned!) Elf Wolf is busy taking a little snooze (and Santa Paws is watching through his magic mirror to see how nice Wolf is helping me) after I finally finished filli

It's the Dog Crazy Meet the Bloggers Getting to Know You Blog Hop! Come on By!

For today's post, I'm joining in "Meet the Bloggers, " a fabulous networking and "get to know the blogger behind the pet" event! At the end of this post is a list of today's hosts, so I hope you'll be sure to pop over and visit their blogs, as well as all the "hoppers!"  First up, they asked for a photo, so here's one my daughter shot of me on my birthday this year with my five Siberian Huskies, for which this blog is named after!   My FiveSibes & I: Harley, Gibson, Chloe, Wolf & Bandit These are questions we were asked to answer so all those who are joining in the hop can get visit and get to know each other outside of our furkids! We were asked to answer a selection of questions and these some I thought I'd chat about! Meet the Bloggers (MtB): What’s your favorite non-animal related book?   FiveSibesMom (FSM): I have many! However, I did love The Lucky One by Nicholas Sparks. (Yes, I know there wer

ASPCA "What Not to Buy? Pet Store Puppies!" Video, Holiday Pet Gift Guide, and a Holiday Giveaway!

Image
Gibson here! Hu-Mom has an important holiday message! With the holiday fast approaching, you may know of some folks who are thinking about getting their family a puppy for Christmas...we'd like to join in the with the SPCA and say don't buy a puppy from a pet store! Pet stores = puppy mills. Instead, why not visit your local SPCA, shelter, or rescue and check out the wonderful dogs just waiting for someone to love. There will be no Santa coming for them this year. No stockings with their names on them hung with care. No fuzzy toys, tasty bones, or healthy snacks all waiting under a tree for them. No family to say "Merry Christmas!" to them and lavish them with kisses while holiday music plays in the background. But we can make a difference! And if you can't adopt, consider fostering, sponsoring, or even just visiting your shelter or rescue this season to walk, play, and donate some goodies to. We can all make homeless pets have a bright holiday season. We&

Rallying Siberian Husky Lovers! Vote to Get the Husky into the Top AKC "12 Breeds of Christmas" Top Spot!

Image
Woooo! We are pretty excited that through all the voting, the Siberian Husky breed has been selected as one of the American Kennel Club's "12 Breeds of Christmas!" Now...AKC is looking to choose THE top breed of Christmas by posting a different breed each day from now until December 23 and on December 12...the voting is open for one day only just for the Siberian Husky! Just visit the AKC Facebook page HERE, look for the post with the Siberian Husky and "like" it, leave a comment something like "Go Huskies!" or "Siberian Huskies are #1!" and then share the link with all your Siberian Husky loving friends!  We only have one day to get all our votes, comments, and likes in on that one post, so be sure to set your alarms!  This contest by the AKC is all for fun, but just how perfect is it to have a snow dog like the Siberian Husky, a born sled dog, be the "AKC's #1 Breed of Christmas?" After all, Huskies were bred to p

Sponsor A Husky This Christmas and Bring Some Holiday Cheer to a Homeless Husky!

Image
"Shhhhh, this is a surprise Christmas box for our sponsor-a-Husky brother, Bruce!" We are very excited to have a sixth Sibe join us this holiday season...we are sponsoring a rescue Siberian Husky this year and hope to bring some howliday cheer to him! Meet Bruce! Isn't he just beautiful?! Bruce is currently residing at the Siberian Husky Emergency Lifeline (S.H.E.L.L.) waiting for his loving, forever family. While he waits, S.H.E.L.L. wanted to be sure he, and other Huskies at his rescue, have a very happy holiday season...and they can! You can sponsor a Husky, just like we did, and make his or her or their Christmas season bright and merry, until they can be part of a forever family by sponsoring them and then going shopping and picking out some toys, treats, and items that will brighten their holiday! When you volunteer to sponsor a Husky, S.H.E.L.L. will send you your sponsor Husky's photo and some info about what he/she likes to help make your

Wolf's Surprise Get Well Package

Image
"Woooo...a packaged for me???!!" Nothing brings a smile to a Husky's face (other than snow) than a box of treats and toys! As you know, my boy Wolf blew out his CCL last month and had to undergo cruciate imbrication surgery. He is definitely on the mend, and his incision has healed nicely, and a soft coating of white fuzz is now covering his surgery shaved leg. He is starting to put some weight on it and we just received the green light from the surgeon to allow him to walk for five minutes when he goes out on his potty breaks now! He is still on strict bed rest inside and on leash walks only, but we are on our way to healing. We are half way there...in three weeks, we do a follow-up and find out how he is progressing.  We have received many wonderful Emails, comments, notes, prayers, power of the paw vibes, and cards... and so appreciate each and every one of them. Today, we want to say "thanks" for a very special care package from Holly and the Huskies
