It's National Dog Week! Time to Celebrate & Appreciate Our Best Friends

"Woooo, guys, it's National Dog Week!"
Even though every day here at our house it is a "dog day," this week does mark the official National Dog Week, a great time to reflect back on our dogs' lives (as in our photo here when Wolf was a pup!) and just how much joy they bring to us each and every day. So what's a holiday without a celebration???

Last year's blog we had fun celebrating, and now it's the perfect excuse again to don some party hats, cue up the music, order in some pizza or BBQ up some yummy food to share with your furkids, and don't forget the vanilla ice cream cake! Any holiday is an official cause to celebrate with our FiveSibes!

But, before we get too carried away with partying...here's a very interesting National Dog Week Blog, by author Lisa Begin-Kruysman, to check out some great facts, trivia, art, and points about the origins of the week. You can also check out the National Dog Week Facebook page.

According to Express News' pet columnist Cathy Rosenthal, the founding forefathers of National Dog Week created seven objectives in 1928 for National Dog Week that still hold true today:
  1. A good home for every dog.
  2. Elimination of stray dogs from the street
  3. Better-informed dog owners
  4. Consideration for dogs and all animals
  5. Emphasis of the dog’s use as companion and protector
  6. Fair laws for dogs and dog owners
  7. Respect for the rights of non-dog owners

So during this official week of the dog, may all of us pet parents recommit ourselves to the reasons we brought furkids into our homes and lives and remember that they love us unconditionally...as we should love them. Let's all give our furbabies a big heartfelt "thank you" for their love, patience, devotion, and undying loyalty (with an extra hefty side dose of kisses!)

This is also a perfect time to visit lonely shelter dogs and brighten their day, and to also remind ourselves that if we witness a pet being abused or neglected to report it so that the animal may have a chance at a forever happy home and knowing what love and being a dog is really all about.

I hear the music...I hear the wooing...it's time to start celebrating! Oh, I see my happy Huskies have already started...without me!

Happy National Dog Week!
